Here are two pennies I am having trouble determining exactly what they are. For both of them I'm leaning more towards the more common versions of the two, the large date for the '70 S and the mint marked '22. Anyways, here are a couple pictures. Hopefully you can all help me out here. Sorry about the image quality of the '22, the coin is just too worn to see much detail.
Im pretty sure the second one is a 22. You can't really tell in the picture, but in person I can make out the bottom edge of the second 2 and the top part of the curve.
The 1970 S is a large date. I beat this thread to death last year and finally invested in a 1970 S proof set with the small date cent. Look at the closure of the loop of the 9. Side by side you can see the 9 is very much more closed on the small date. Next, compared to the large date, the 7 actually looks higher than the 0. There is the pup of the weak lettering, but the easiest to spot is the 9. It's a tough find. I cannot tell you how many rolls I have gone through looking for one. Even old Whitman folders I have found that had a 70 S in the small date hole, were wrong. I cannot tell on the Wheat, sorry. gary
70-S is a large date. As for the other, I am not sure what it is, but I can make out enough to say that it is not a 1922- no "D" or weak "D".
The edge on the bottom is straight across...like the bottom of a 2. There aren't any other numbers that have straight edges on the bottom, are there?
Yeah, that's a "low 7" 1970-S; or as it was always (incorrectly in my opinion) known "large date." The 192_ is so far gone, it's hard to tell even with the decent pics you provided. Looks like a good example to sell on ebay... where all 1922-Ds are "weak Ds."
