I just got my coins back from PCGS today and one of my 69 Proofs has some kind of error on the obverse of it. Can someone tell me whether this coin has a struck through string/wire or whether it's a die break or some other issue? Thanks! It looks like a shooting star!
This could possibly be a defect in the coin slab. I have seen quite a few slabs with factory defects and sometimes I have nearly sworn that the damage was on the coin.
I'll post pics of it under magnification. Also, there are indentations on the dress and on the sun beams. To answer an earlier question, it's a 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Rev PR that graded a PR69 from PCGS. I sent them in sealed to get the FS designation and just got to view them yesterday. Will PCGS keep the grade & FS designation the same if I resubmit requesting that it be graded for errors? Indentations (there are 5-6 on the dress + a more minor version of what looks to be the same on a sunbeam) Up close microscope view makes them look like silver blobs, not indentations, so now I'm even more confused! Here is a close up magnification of the metal/string/hair. It's too long to get the entire piece this way. Lastly, here's one of the sunbeam indentations/blobs.
On the reverse, there are a couple of odd lines and what I'm guessing is mechanical doubling. It's visible on the eagles beak, various letters, the arrows, etc. New pics of the shooting star area which shows breaks in the silver. Could this be a die break instead of a string or piece of hair?
