purchased a 25.00 box of pennies from the bank today and about 5 rolls in saw this old roll that use to be white. I started to open it and 7 fell out and are the best looking pennies ive ever seen 1979 all the way trough are they worth anyting other then 1 cent.
If they are high grade, high luster and eye appeal, then yes. If there are more rolls like it, you can either open them for picking or keep them sealed to sell on eBay or some place.
so far just that one roll didnt take the others out but the ones i had out are in perfect condition even under high light and the magnifying lamp.
You might want to consider posting some pictures of them, if they are MS66+, they might be worth getting graded.
A couple weeks who I pulled out about 8 rolls of assorted 59-74 Lincoln cents in BU condition. This time of year you see more variety with everybody cashing in their Christmas change for bills. At the very least they are worth a penny face value and 2 cents a piece in copper. Nice find nonetheless.
Shame you opened the roll, the premium on an original roll is probably more than they're worth individually.
I wish I didnt opent the top of the roll either,the rest are still in there 43 to be exact.I will see if I can post some pictures
Actually, they would need to be higher than 66, like 68, to be worth submitting to a TPG. Researched recent sales on Heritage, and David Lawrence Rare Coins, the 68 Red 79 Lincolns went for $212.75 - $423.20.
I have seen BWRs of LMCs going for about $8 a roll At a coin show recently, a dealer was unloading some at $2. Good find !
called my local coin store told him what I have and he said " oh yea I have a few of those laying around" so I asked what they are worth and he said about 85 cents a roll
Cherrypick the roll for any ultra high grade coins. 67-68 grade memorials can be quite valuable. I love cracking OBW rolls!
