Pictured below is an item I found metal detecting today. It appears to be copper. It is very thin (about 1/4 the thickness of a quarter). It is press stamped. It says "LIBERTY" across the top, 1916 in the lower right, and "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the lower left. The image appears to be the god Mercury, however it appears to be a different version of this image than that found on a mercury dime. The image is better defined when viewed from the back side, as the object needs cleaning. The object is around 3/16" larger in diameter than a quarter, with a small hole in the top for attaching to a chain (?). Does anyone know what this is. I don't want to clean it until I can identify it. Thanks for any help you can provide.
My guess would be a belly dance coin, or something similar. Just a decorative piece, but still a cool find.
