maybe if it was in Europe, instead of Asia Minor.... and that pesky business of ethnically cleansing the country of Kurds 8O
I don't think it's the location that is the trouble. Cyprus is under consideration, for example. At least Turkey has a toe in Europe proper. I think it's more of a religious issue.
Cyprus isn't a country and the only toe in Europe Turkey has is Greek territory it illegally occupies. IMHO.
Turkey is not among the countries that will join the EU in 2004. http://europa.eu.int/comm/copenhagen_council_20021212/index_en.html Whether the country might join afterwards (either along with Bulgaria and Romania, or at some later stage), remains to be seen. Don't think that "territorial" issues play any role here, but there are many other factors that currently still make Turkey's membership unlikely. And of course, becoming a member state of the European Union does not imply joining "Euroland". Christian
Cyprus. Crito,Cyprus,is most definitely a country. It is a member of the British Commonwealth. The currency is the Pound, which is divided into 100 Cents, just like in Malta, which is the other British Commonwealth country that has joined the European Union. As for them joining the Eurozone, there are plans to join it in either 2006 or 2007. Aidan.
There Are 3 Trial Types Of Turkish Euro Coins ALL 3 ARE BIMETALLIC , LARGE. AUTER RING : YELLOW , CENTER PLUG : GRAY DENOMINATION : 3 EUROS , MINTED IN GERMANY. PICTURES: 1) MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATURK, 2) A MOSQUE (I HAVE BOTH) 3) "DONOR" ("SHAWARMA" MEAT) ON REVERSE : BIG 3 WITH A MAP OF ERURO ZONE + TURKEY ... I THINK IT IS A MEAN OF PRESURE ON THE EUROPEAN UNION. MEANWHILE : TURKEY GOT RID OF THE MILLIONS OF LIRA's THERE IS A "YENI TURK LIRASI" 1 BIMETALLIC LIRA , YEAR: 2005, I HAVE IT.
I have seen these on ebay - fantasy pieces, and the doner one is a joke for sure. Now someone is selling sets of propsed euro sets from Turkey and all the other new or potential countries. They are just privately issued prototypes with no official connection to anything.
Well, Turkish döner food is (along with the Greek pendant gyros) actually the most popular fast food in Germany. Maybe that is why the manufacturer of those medals used that image. But it's a joke rather than pressure Pseudo-euros such as those ones are made "for" virtually any European country or region, and even beyond Europe. Here is a neat gallery of such pieces - low bandwidth users beware: http://ret001qm.eresmas.net/eu-ingle.htm If loading the page takes too long, or if anybody just wants to view those "Turkish euros", here they are: http://ret001qm.eresmas.net/images/Turquia_3_Yuro_04-a.jpg (same "common" side for all three) http://ret001qm.eresmas.net/images/Turquia_3_Yuro_04_Ataturk-r.jpg http://ret001qm.eresmas.net/images/Turquia_3_Yuro_04_Mezquita-r.jpg http://ret001qm.eresmas.net/images/Turquia_3_Yuro_04_Payaso.jpg Christian
Yup, I just ate one for lunch. They are even bigger than McDonald's etc., and they are all sold by individual guys in a small store or stand who are in business for themselves. As far as I know, there are no döner franchises. They are filling, healthy (I think), and not too expensive. But I am 99% sure that no Turk would want a guy cutting döner meat as their euro design.
Even countries like the Baltic States , Poland and the like will probably not have the Euro before 2007.
Giladzuc,Turkey has revalued its currency as a way of fighting hyperinflation.Yeni is the Turkish word for 'New'.Therefore 'Yeni Turk Lirasi' means 'New Turkish Lira'.They are not fantasies, they are new coins that you would have seen on Ebay. Aidan.
???? I think we are talking about two things. The Turkish euro coins (especially the 3 euro one) are fantasies for sure. Of course, other coins are on ebay, which are validly issued.
We most certainly are If we limit the discussion to what is mentioned in the subject ("Turkeye Euro"), then the answer is simple - those are fantasy pieces, period. Now the YTL coins are actually circulating of course. Even though the design with the ubiquitous Atatürk leaves much to be desired Christian
The Turkish Euro pieces are actually private patterns of what the Euro coins from Turkey would look like if Turkey was admitted to both the European Union & the Eurozone. Aidan.
And...if they happened to choose those designs. (They are not official in any way - just one person's fantasy design).
