1 box of Halves: 2 x 40%ers and 1 Silver Roosie from the reject tray.

Also got another one of those Gold Covered Halves....a 1980P. It's in really good shape so I gave it to my kids.

Not from a roll but found a Franklin, a 40%, a 43 Walker, an Ike and some SBA dollars from a stash at the liquor store that the owner had saved in a bucket. It doesn't hurt to ask anywhere.

Box of Pennies...Worst one yet only 3 wheats in junk shape (47s,50d,57d)....But it cranked out 4lbs and 10oz of copper. I have another 1lb of 82s but have to get a new battery for my gram scale to pick out the zincs.

Ugh... went to my dump bank today to drop off $500 in dimes. I had also ordered $1000 box of halves from them, that were supposed to arrive thursday. I was informed by the teller that she wasn't able to order my halves after all, because "there isn't any demand for them, so the office told her she couldn't order them for me since I'd just bring them back". I was a bit upset, since 90% of the reason I even opened an account with them was because they said they would order halves for me - and they KNEW that was why. I told her I never brought coins back to the same bank I got them from, but she was adamant. I am considering closing that account, but I might keep them JUST to dump at.

I next went to my main pick-up bank, and bought a $1000 bag of quarters. I also ordered a $1000 box of halves from them, and THEY should actually provide them... I have never dumped there, only bought. They should arrive friday - only a 1-day loss for me, I suppose. Still disappointed, though. I feel like I was lied to by the first bank, and tricked into opening the account.

Have gone through about 2/3 or 3/4 of the bag of quarters so far - 1x 1964 silver, a handful of bicentennials (how can I tell the difference between 40%ers and regular clad?) and what appear to be 2 UNCLAD quarters? I've never seen one before, but I have a new mexico state quarter and a 1967 (I think it was) quarter, each appearing to be only the inner copper layer. Any idea how to verify these?

Hey everyone, just curious how do I identify 40%ers? I'm just kinda starting out with this hobby, would it be best to start with rolls of quarters or dimes? Does it matter? Any hints or tips? I've learned a few things already just reading this thread. Thanks!

Raoul and Khay: No such thing as 40% quarters.....only halves and SOME dollars. Silver coins are as follows:

Dollars: 1964 and before are 90% + some S minted Ikes from the 70's are 40%
    Halves: 1964 and before are 90% and 1965 - 1970 are 40%. 76 S can be 40%
Quarters: 1964 and before are 90%
Dimes: 1964 and before are 90%
    Nickels: some 1942 and 1943 - 1945 are 35%

Some S minted proofs from 92 forward have 90% halves, quarters and dimes (some proofs are clad)

You can tell by sound, look and weight.

Thanks for sharing. That is way cool. Granted, I've only done 34 dime boxes, but my best is only 3 silvers. 134!

Also, what a nice Steelie as well!

    Moon,

How many dimes have you been able to recover from circulation? I'm at 160 (Roosie & Mercs) since the end of May when I started. At the end of the year I'm going to figure out how many oz. of silver I have recovered. With the price dropping like a rock today I think a total number of ounces will be a good motivator.

I'll count my rolls tonight. I only keep stats for my halves boxes. Maybe starting in 2012 I'll start keeping track of dimes. I often will buy $100 here and there so it would be a pain to log those purchases.

I picked up $160 CWR and was hoping for the same kind of luck that ccit had, not so much this time. All clad.

well yesterday was pretty lucky. second big find of dimes in about 45 days, though the last one had mercs.
    Today - 115 BWR dimes - 62d; 185 CWR dimes - 64d; 120 CWR halves - nothing (someones dump)
Hopefully tomorrow will be better. And I need to find something to do with the 800 Ikes I picked up a few weeks ago to free up some cash for half boxes.
