    By the way the date on the other side is 1731

    Might be a Brazilian Reis, but I'm not sure. Get a picture of the other side and post it.

    I think that such "Pecunia Insulana" (Island Money) coins were issued for the Azores. Not sure though ...

    It's indeed from the Azores. Denomination is 5 reis, but the date would have to be 1751. These were not made prior to 1750.
