The 20 coin rolls are currently going for $39.95 at the Mint website... bet they'll go up to $49.95 for subsequent issues now that this is the only way to get them.

Why don't they just stop printing dollar bills already?!? We are the only the industrialized country on the planet with a bill that has such a low nominal value! It might have made sense in 1933, even 1973, but not today.

Agreed. Wouldnt mind seeing the penny eliminated also.

  6. Perhaps, someday the stockpile will be released as a "GSA Hoard" ?

This is a short-sighted decision, and will only keep around the paper $1 for longer. They got it wrong....again.

So in the name of cutting government waste they are going to cut revenues to the general fund by 305 million dollars a year. Since they will still need that money it means the government will have to borrow an extra third of a billion dollars a year. I don't know where Wolin gets his $50 million dollar a year savings since it doesn't cost the government anything to make these things. Sure there is a cost, but they pay back way more than they cost so there is no net cost and no net savings from stopping them. The only real cost savings would come from savings in storage costs and from the article it is clear that even stopping them there will still be at least ten years of storage costs. (Actually at current drawdown closer to twenty years.) Stopping the dollar note would have resulted in more savings.

Just read the Treasury blog. In order to be better stewards of the taxpayers money they are taking steps to stop adding to the stockpile......but they are NOT taking steps to REDUCE the stockpile and move them into circulation by eliminating the paper dollar. DUMB!

Not for the people who's pockets are being lined with green thanks to the paper industry. Until that is controlled we'll never be rid of the waste that is the dollar bill, and blame on government waste will continue to be aimed at coinage.

As long as I can get the remaining ones, don't want my empty holes to stay empty in the Presidential dollar album I have. I'm still in favor of getting rid of the paper note and replacing with these. Just force it upon the public, they'll accept it, they'll have to. I wonder if they proceed with these plans on limited production, if they're just going to be in the Mint sets and or separate uncirculated sets? I hope they keep them ongoing with the uncirculated mint sets if they do, I'd rather spend the $30 to get the 10 or 11 coins than the usual $20 just for the 4 Presidential dollar coins.

Never going to happen, unless you want to see some nasty inflation occur.

Not entirely, they're going to at least finish up until Reagan as originally planned. If they make less of them, might actually make them worth more later on down the road.

I'm sure it'll be like the Kennedy half and it'll be in both sets as well as in rolls and bags available from the mint only. They haven't made Kennedy's for circulation in years, yet they make a bundle selling them for collector use.

If they let it run till 2016 I can see suspending the program after that. It'll be interesting to see what president they stop with.

So now they'll have $50 million dollars they can waste on something else we don't need.

Sounds like Garfield is the last one in production.

There are plenty of other deceased Presidents beyond Garfield, how'd you come up with Garfield being the last one?
