Come on, think again. If you had a time machine why go back to buy something common like gold. Go to the future and grab some iPads12s, or grab the sports pages for betting, or see where the disasters occurred. Grab some new antibiotics and the plans and parts for a "transporter" and use it to remove excess fat from people without surgery....etc.

Lol yeah, but it sure would be tempting to go back and get some Gem Red BU chain cents and 1794 silver dollars, then maybe further back and get some bright shiny sestertii by the bagful......yeah woulda, coulda, shoulda. Best bet is to acquire what you can today, because if anything 35 years in this hobby has shown me, the coins that are available today sure seem to disappear from the marketplace over time. I am happy that I bought what I could when I could, but that goes for just 4 years ago as well as 30 years ago. If you think something is a nice, collectible coin and is available now, BUY IT! Trust me, way too many "boring" items that are everywhere one day suddenly disappear or are 10 times the price tomorrow. If I would have stopped buying after my chance to buy cheap silver, I would have missed out on cheap Romans, and cheap Chinese cash coins, items in the last 10 years have went from cheap and plentiful to scarcer and much pricier.

I was at my main dealers this morning and we were talking about the opening market on gold this morning.

His wife sold him her 1/4 eagle because she needed shopping money for Christmas and he hadn't checked gold price this morning and he nearly fell out of his chair when I told him it tanked so much from Friday's close.

 

PM prices are always going all over the place. Sometimes its easier not to think too much about the price you paid for them. When you have something that is just sitting there and taking up space, any money you get when selling them is a profit.

Oh and if I had a time machine I would go into the future, get the lottery numbers then come back and play them. This way I can buy all the coins I want.

 

Man if I could just get a hold of that time machine. I'd convince coach to put me in 4th quarter. We'd take state.

 

Thanks for the replies. I would have loved to get Peace dollars at those prices! If I would have only started collecting a bit earlier in life...
