That probably isn't its actual name, but I know very little about coins. This coin came out of my grandfathers safe deposit box where it sat for 50 years or more. I am thinking of selling it, but when I brought it to a jewerly and coin store they offered me $800 which I guess is what it is worth just as gold. Is that about what I could expect to get for this or is it worth having it officially graded and trying to auction it off somewhere online?

Nice looking, but a little hard to tell the exact grade from your pics. Price of gold in down today, so $ 800 to $900 is probably a decent dealer buy price.

Yes, $800 is right around melt value.

It's impossible to say with certainty from the photo, but overall looks like a pretty nice piece; these things are popular and command strong money in higher grades. I would consider having it graded. Definitely don't sell at melt value until you have an unbiased coin man take a close look.
