question- does Canada not have the same quality control as other countries with regard to their printing of currency? It seems like I have seen 2-3 times as many Canadian bills with this error then the US. However I don't think I have ever seen a foldover printing error from Canada.
Just wondering what you have found to be true...

Wow ikan. What kind of printer are you using to make these?

I do know for sure that Canada's currency is hardest in the world to counterfeit. I also know that over my years of seeing error notes, I have seen many more Canadian error notes than US error notes.

This one has obviously been circulated. I wonder how many hands this one went through and no on noticed.

This particular prefix (ELN) was particularly bad for mismatched numbers. So far about 20-30 have been discovered (I have a few myself) with anywhere from one to seven numbers being mismatched. To find mismatches in other prefixes or denominations is much rarer. It may have just been a circumstance with maybe a new employee or a faulty counter that had to be repaired.

As for other errors- foldovers and such, I have seen one or two in private collections but you are correct in assuming they are extremely rare. Before I started collecting, I remember a staff member at one of the companies I worked at, carefully trimming a half dozen notes that had butterfy folds. At the time, I had no idea of the values of these but now, thinking of that, it makes me ill.

It may seem that way but in the shows that I've attended, Canadian error notes are virtually non-existant. They do show up on ebay and Heritage occasionally but I go through close to $100,000 worth of banknotes a week and the errors I've posted are the only ones I've found. True, not many collectors check the serial numbers of every note they come across which is why I've come across so many (I look at every single banknote that my business takes in).

Congrats ikan! I remember when I found a mismatch $20 last year, was such a thrill. I also check every single bill I receive although don't have access to near the volume you do. Keep it up!

Dang! You are really good at finding these! ...And Canada is really bad at letting them get through quality control! :D

I've only sold one personally (the first one I found) which was in primo condition. It actually went for more than catalog value ($505.00). But, condition is everything and this one is pretty worn, so the value drops substantially. Other mismatched notes I have are in the $250-$400 range in value. Also, there is only one digit mismatched which keeps it in the lower dollar range.

man that is crazy how much those are. I look for them all the time and can never find one..Probably be like trying to find a 1955 DD cent while roll searching.

I've mentioned this before...... some of the paper money collectors I know have been searching stacks everyday for the last 30 years and have never found one. They have found other errors and fancy numbers but not mismatches. I've been told I have the largest private collection of mismatched notes (of the current Journey series) in Canada and I've found all of them searching my change or the till at work.

    Just pure luck.:smile
