During the WWII USSR struggled against German"s fascists and their allies (Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, Finland, Croatia and Romania). We are lost about 27000000 persons (about 19000000 non-combatants & about 8000000 soldiers).
The Day of the Great Victory (9 May 1945 - is a main Russian holiday). Each family lost one or more own members. For example: my great-grandfather falled in 1943; but my granfather was a prisoner of a concentration camps during 14 July 1941 - 2 May 1945.
My another great-grandfather struggled against fascists in Russia, Poland & Germany.
So, Russian mint produced these coins.

    10 roubles 2000, Bi-Metallic copper-nickel. "55th Anniversary of the Great Victory".
    10 roubles 2005, Bi-Metallic copper-nickel. "60th Anniversary of the Great Victory".

Yuri Gagarin was the First Spaceman in the world.
In 2001 Russian mint (Moscow & St. Peterburg) minted this commemorative coin: 40th Anniversary of the First Space Flight.

Great thread Siberian Man. Here are two that I have as part of my "horses" collection. I love the way that the space in the center of the 0 of "10" has a directional image that shifts from "10" to "RYB" depending on the angle at which you view it. That's a pretty amazing thing to build into a metal coin!

I'm sorry for your grandparent's struggles. Those are great looking coins. It is unusual to have a 55 year anniversary coin. The sentiments on the coins are really good.

Growing up in the United States in the 1960's,
I never thought that the Czarist eagle would re-appear on Russian coins.

Bought this one because it has a blimp on it.
