    Hi All
I have a 1822 indian head penny that is in good condition. You can see liberty in the head. I was just wondering if anyone know the value of such a coin.
    Thanks

Pejenks: If I recall, Indian Heads didnt say Liberty. The describtion you said and the date would indicate a Large Cent Variety or a Coronet Head cent. If it grades Godd it could be worth 20-30 ish.

Wow! Shows how little I know. I looked on ebay and it is a Coronet Head. There is an 1822 on there that someone has bid 100 on.
    Thanks

Howdy pejenks - Welcome to the Forum !!

Before you get excited about the value of your coin you need to realize that value is largely dependent on the condition of the coin. You can have two examples of the same coin with being worth $5 and the other being worth $5000.

You need to post pics of your coin.

Indian head cents have a headband with the word Liberty.
This is a grading point, if you can read the whole word or just a letter or two.

Well I just went through all my Indian heads that's how I know. Redbook says :

G-4 Good - No letters of Liberty visible.
G-8 VG- At least some letters readable
F-12 Fine - Liberty mostly visible
VF-20 Very Fine- Slight but even wear on Liberty
EF-40 extremely Fine - Liberty sharp.

So you see the word Liberty on the headband is a key to grading old Indian cents.

Took them out of a decayed and rotting album and put them into individual 2X2 holders. Some glue or gum came off the album onto the reverse of some coins. They were probably in that blue folder 55 years.
Made the decision I will never complete the set anyway. Too expensive for nice pre 1880s.

I have most of them from 1880 and newer.
Very few have the complete headband intact. My pride and joy is a 1863 in fairly nice shape. I wonder if General Grant bought himself a beer with that coin?

    So what's a sapper?

Simply put it is an advanced form of a combat engineer in the Army. It is a leadership course much like Ranger school wiht a greater focus on demolitions Improvised demo and breaching charges.

Plus the helo cast is kick A** lol
