I found this quarter, but am curious what is causing the inside edge, from about the 1 position to the 8 position to be beveled in on the inside of the edge (obverse). Can anyone explain this to me? I am used to seeing the edges pretty sharp where the edge was upset.

Slightly miss aligned die strike. A very slight error coin.

    The correct term is "rim".

Thanks, Hobo. I couldn't think of the right word, and it is something I need to commit to memory, seeing as how I like coins!

It is similar to the rim of a wheel.
