    Hello,

Firstly, thanks for having this forum to post to. Secondly, I have a weird penny that I was hoping someone could shed some light on. Everything about it looks normal, except for the date. It says 2501. Is this something terribly unusual? I have a habit of checking my pennies, no idea as to why or what for, and this is the first time I've seen one with an obviously incorrect date. I tried to take a picture of it to upload here, but the photo did it no justice. Thoughts?

    Thank you,
    Eric Long

    Welcome to the neighborhood, Eric!

Without photos, we can only guess. The only other alternative would be for you to hang on to it until 2501 and see if you can spend it.

Ok, a picture is going to be very hard to do here. I have a cell phone and the camera isn't the best. I will try to upload a picture of it, but I was just wondering about the rarity of a misprint on the date.

If your picture is to fuzzy and small, you might try scanning it and posting the image here.

I seriously doubt that it is an error. NOTE: There are no "misprints" in coinage. Coins are struck; paper money is printed.

In all likelihood, it is probably someone's attempt to manipulate the numbers of the date (it wouldn't be the first time someone removed one or more digits and added others) or it is a counterfeit.

Could also be a strange counterstamp.

I don't get it? How did it get a 2012 date? Photoshop? I don't get it.
