I found this Twenty Dollar Coin while metal detecting. There was also a Ten Dollar Gold Coin. Can you give me a guess as to what ths coin may be worth. The marks i was told are bag marks. Both coins were found in a jar buried about 10 inches. next to and old oak tree. Regards, Kman413
Did you take pics of the coin in the jar as you were digging it out? Did you save the jar? Anything else in the jar?
Unless the $10 is something special, and you go and try to sell these coins, don't expect more to be offered than about 10% less than spot price. The '04 $20 is a common date and common date gold coins even in grades as high as MS63 are selling for spot or slightly less. And your coin looks like it might even be damaged (scratched), which would definitely put it in the spot range. Even so, quite a find !
Dude! That is EXACTLY where I buried my jar of coins! And now I can't find it... PM me and we can work out a finder's fee and postage, etc.
And even if they were still alive, finders keepers! Unless of course this person dug the jar up on the actual owners property, then I'd imagine any court would side with the owner of the land as they can rightfully claim well, they own what's on their land.
Gold Coins in a Jar They were buried on my uncles land. A former farm that is beening developed. There were two Gold coins inside a small jar. The jar is from the turn of the centry. I also located a large cast iron Coke Cola Truck. Please understand, i'm a professional relic hunter. I travel all up & down the east coast. I found many increable items from the Revolutionary War, Civil War. WW 1 & 2 I belong to many Historical Society's here in NY. I donate most of my finds. To the locate Historical homes here in NY. Of course it was cool to find Gold Coins, but to me it's just another good hunt. How many times did I travel long distances and find nothing. At my cost for gas. food & sometimes motel fees. I just thought some of you people would like to see what is in the ground. Not to be put on trial. I know all the laws and have all the documents necessary to metal detect in any area I am going to hunt in. For you people who are interested in metal detecting or just like to see what can come up I will display the jar and the two coins.
I dont know where all the OP has found his WW1 & WW2 artifacts. I have never found any on the east coast but I have in Nebraska, Montana, Arizona and California. Just like gold coins, Id guess they are where you find them.
This is not to hard. The troops left from the piers along the coast. They had camps and live in tents while waiting to board the trains. Yes, I have dog tags from WW1 and tent pegs and Reginental pins and buttons. Just a short walk for Eisenhower Park Located on Long Island.their is a monument to the troops who boarded trains to take them to the peirs along New York City. Do some reseach before you make comments of other peoples labor. Civil war prisoners were held on Goveners Island, as well as owls head park located near Fort Hamiltion another civil war prisoner of war camp. Fort Greene Park has mounment dedicated to the prisoners of the Revolution who died on the prison ships ( The Old Jersey ) was one. The bones of about 11 thousand prisoners of the Revolutionary War died on the ships and were buried on the shore of what is now the Brooklyn, Navy Yard. I have found many Geman war supply items brought back form the war. I have a very large collection of books on these wars and the incrudments used. Need any more information. I will be gald to help. I've been doing this for over 30 years. I have pictures of battle sites that were taken from ballons in the late 18oo's to the early 1900's. I was at the site of what is left of Fort Wagner Charlestion, S.C. And I get the permission to go on these sites because I'm a professional. I turn over all most all the items I find to the people running the historic fort or home.
