Can anybody tell me what is a "Half Pound" 1992 Prestige Proof Set? Supposedly there were only 5,000 of them minted and it comes in a wooden presentation case. Does anybody know what this set is, and whether or not it would be worth more than a "regular" 1992 Prestige Proof Set? Thanks.
Without a picture it is hard to tell what it actually is that you have. I did some looking around and unless your confusing British coins with US coins I'm not at all sure what you have. The British 1992 proof set was over 5000 set mint and the US sets where over 183,000. Does the proof set contain A Kennedy Half, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, etc. or do they look like what on this site http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/1992british4coingoldset.html I don't recall ever seeing a mint released proof set that came in a wooden box, so this might be something other then a US mint released proof set. This means that who ever assembled these sets, as such, made only 5000 to sell and not that there where only 5000 "minted". Good Luck!
You are correct - these are silver replica coins issued by a private mint. And the US Mint has not issued regular, annual Proof sets in wood cases. But the US Mint has released several commemorative sets in wood presentation cases.
all the paper work says united states proof coins when they were bought back in 1992 they cost 1,000 dallors we have one also they are worth way more then just the silver content and they only made 5,000 yours should be # as well where is your other piece of paperthat came with it. to show what # yours is? but dont let anyone tell you that its not worth any money because it is.
Boobbetrap, if y'all paid $1,000.00 for those silver rounds back in 1992, I hate to say it, but you were robbed! Those silver bullion rounds were struck independently of the US Mint and then placed in proprietary packaging and hawked as a collectible..."a full half pound of silver!" I can just read the ad in my head. If you took those into a coin shop right now, they would offer you slightly less than $200 and that would be generous.
