I got this coin the other day... any clues as to where it came from? And can anybody decipher the year? There seems to be numbers of sorts, but i can't figure them out!
Try having a look at coinage of thr Ottoman Empire it reminds me of a Ottoman paras. proberly wrong lOL De Orc :kewl:
If its 2.4055 gms, its a 2 Kurush Turkey AH 1293, if its 6.0130gms it is a 5 Kurush and if its 12.0270gms, its a 10 Kurush from the same year. KM#736, 737, 738 respectively. Try the 20th Century catalogue... look into Turkey. Actually 1293 is the accession date of Abdul Hamid II. The year is 29. As per the catalogue, it cannot be a 10 Kurush, as no such coin is issued in the year 29. So, it can be either a 2 Kurush or a 5 Kurush from Turkey.
i browsed through several websites and eventually found it on this site CLICK ME Turns out to be egypt
I'm with spiraltreet on this one. The toughra indicates either Turkey or Egypt, but the double date is only consistent with Turkey.
It is definitely a silver 1 qirsh KM-292 (under Egypt) minted during the Ottoman (Turkish) occupation of Egypt, 1293 year 29 (~1905).
