So I ran across this auction for this 1800 draped bust $5.00 half eagle, and the coin really jumped out at me. It has very strong eye appeal, but is slabbed PCGS Genuine, and says (mount removed). I'm guessing that this is refering to the reverse. Anyhow there is a price tag of about 3,800, and the buyer and I are trying to negotiate a trade. I am considering trading my 3 dollar gold piece (PCGS Genuine, AU-Details), 1942 2 over 1 PCGS VF-25, and some cash. This would be a large transaction for me, and I was hoping I could get some experts to take a look at this coin. It is very hard for me to put an accurate price on this coin with the Genuine mark and Mount removed. Thank you very much.
I would agree. When they say mount removed usually it means that someone had soldered a ring to the side of the coin... and it was subsequently removed. The back looks like a weak strike and some scratches on the slab.
Oh my, saved by CT once again. TY, I'll take a step back from this one. I was going to offer 3+ trade.
