I sold some furniture to a gentelman who paid me in all old $100 bills. Found it kind of odd, so I looked at the dates for giggles and came across this bill. Im trying to figure out what its worth, and probably looking to sell it.
score! From a run of 640K and the only district to have a star in 1981A. Book says $225 in ef-40. Congrats!
"In the US, The Bureau of Engraving and Printing inspects currency for printing errors prior to releasing notes into general circulation. When notes are discovered that have been printed incorrectly (such as having the serial numbers upside down, etc.) the misprinted "error notes" are replaced with star notes because no two bills within a certain series can be produced with the same serial number.[SUP][[/SUP]" Who knew?
Thanks for the reply! I actually called the guy and left a message inquiring if he had anymore older bills, did t go into why though lol! Its exciting to come across Finds like this! Makes you wonder what some people pay others with too.
Mr mo joe, that's some interesting info, thanks for sharing! That's my learn something new for the day. : )
Amazing find, and in spectacular shape no doubt. I bet that guy was waiting to give those to only you this whole time!
That thing's pretty crisp as well. Certainly a dandy circulation find! Maybe you should sell furniture to this man more often... -Brian
That thing is hardly crisp at all, not from the perpective of GEM notes that serious collectors are after. It can't lay flat, has dog ears, center creases, no original paper surface and nearly the whole bottom edge is shredded (tears in many places). If one want's to know what a beat up note is worth, put it on eBay and see what offer you might get. I'd say at best, this particular note can net $125 tops. It just has too many problems.
at $125 it is not worth an ebay sale. ebay and paypal get 14%. you'll be lucky to see $10 over face for your pocket.now if it gets up around $150 -200 you'll get a better return...rob
