This one is in my father's collection. It is a 1909-S VDB Penny. He found it in a cache of pennys from the 1940's as a kid in the early 1960's. Trying to get an opinion on grade and price. Thanks!
I can believe the XF40, but $1250 is a little steep. $1100 certified sounds more likely to me and that means it is not corroded and my guess is that there is corrosion on it. I would venture somewhere around $800 - $900.
I see several spots that almost surely have corrosion with in hand consideration. I would grade it as high VF myself. Still a desirable coin. Jim
Nice coin....all the diagnostics check out for an authentic coin. It might have an issue grading though. There are some spots of corrosion it looks like and what looks like a faint scratch on the reverse running diagonally abouve V.D.B. Still a very tough coin and should you sell it you will get a bunch!! Even if it only grades as "Authentic", you will still get more money if it is in a slab.
Nice find and very highly acclaimed coin for the series. You will have no problem unloading it for $1000-1250 to the right collector. VF-ish details despite the spotting issues.
Very similar to mine which is in an NGC VF-30 holder. I'd say it's VF-25/30 or so and worth about $1000 in a holder. You need to have it slabbed....especially if you intend on selling it.
I thought I would add an update to this thread. I joined the NGC and submitted it for grading. Had it slabbed in a scratch resistant container, and it was graded XF40-BN. Thanks to everyone for the input!
