Family Member gave me a jar of Wheats and this 1926 was inside. Is this another "prisoner tooled cent" or can this actually happen when struck?
IfI had to guess that is PMD you have there, I dont's know of any mintage, die, or strike error that would cause that.
100% certain that is post-mint damage. It's a pipe-and-hammer coin, as I like to call it. Sorry... -Brian

Done many moons ago most likely, continued to be circulated so extra rubbing from people exchanging it back and forth smoothed it over the years..
