I know there is a toned coin thread already, but they are 99% silver or copper. I really like to see what people have for modern clad coinage. Clad coins are not as prone to react to the environment like the silver ones. But it definetely happens under the proper circumstances. Let's see any clad from the last 40 years! Of course, I'll start:
Here's a funky SBA, don't know why it's like that, but I've seen coins like it before. The pictures are misleading, this is not a zinc plated and heated school experiment, the devices are clearer in person of yellow. I can tell it's not plated, not painted, not sure what happened to it.
Sorry the pictures are blurry. I had to attempt to use an old iPhone because current cameras seem to filter out the colors. These are very common commemorative pieces from the UK (matte) and Jamaica (proof). The last photo is just to show the finish of the coin.
I know this is a non-silver thread, but I found this 1994 World Cup half to be funny. Of the five prestige sets that I own, it's the only one where the clad half is toned, but the silver dollar is relatively clean. I've included a picture of the '96 Olympic dollar to compare. The picture of the half doesn't really pick-up what I see... it's a golden tone, similar to how Ike/SBAs tone.
I agree with you. Unfortunately, I only did the camera work. The coins belong to a PCGS member. These next three belong to SkyMan from a couple of other boards and I think he is also a member here.
I got bored, so I took pictures of the only Kennedy I own that I actually think is cool. I was roll-searching and found this gem... I included pictures w/ & w/o flash, so that you can see the original luster is present. It's kind of strange, if you ask me, but I like it.
Someone asked in the other thread who made that coin for you. 1) It's not a real coin. (There were no Ikes released with a 1975 date.) 2) It's AT.
Just wondering, why do the colors appear to repeat in certain parts of this coin? I don't know enough (let's say anything) about clad toning, so the question is a serious one, if anyone can answer it.
