Found this one in a box along with some pretty beat up peace type dollars, and was curious what it might be worth and how rare it might be. I have never had an error coin in my collection, but this one gets a place just for weirdness.

From the look of it each side was hit 3+ times, mostly on the same side, though clearly at least once was reversed due to the "five cents" plastered across Jefferson's poor elongated forehead.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

    Thanks!

That's pretty cool! I haven't any idea what it would be worth.

just my opinion but i think this may be pmd caused by some putting it in a vice with two other coins

Cazkaboom One for all, all for me.

That is one triple reverse struck (One reverse on obverse, two reverse on reverse). I wonder how it had gotten 3 reverses but it is definitely a neat piece. As far as value, I have no idea.

In my opinion, this looks really interesting! I have no real knowledge on error coins, so I can't really help you much, but I will come back to check this thread because I'm interested to see what comes of it.

From what little I've seen of the error market, it looks like the value of most coins is in the eye of the beholder. Some people would only give you face for errors, but if you find the right person you may be able to get quite a premium.

Thanks for the opinions. As with anything, I suppose value truly is whatever someone willing to buy offers someone willing to sell, but it is fun to hear other people's thoughts.

Calumsherwood: is it possible to do that? I guess I never considered that it could be faked (doesn't change that it looks cool).

but the other strikes are incuse, meaning it must of been done with another coin, after minting

Huh, as I look closer, one of the images on the back is reversed (monticello backwards makes it clear), but in the front the "five cents" on his forehead reads correctly, so I have no idea. Trying to make out or isolate a single image makes me go a bit cross-eyed.
