My family and I will be traveling to visist my brother in PA next month and I was interested in taking my children to the Philedelphia Mint. I got online and searched about tours. What is the deal with having to contact your Congressman? I am assuming that this is some sort of security measure?

It is, a little bit. The other thing is slanted towards the political, but it is mostly a security thing (I think).

I would make the contact now - I know they started the tours back up, but the dates are something of a question when I checked last.

Good luck - write and call a week later to follow up. I am sure in this election year, our Congressmen are getting blistered with mail/email.

The Mint tours are available as with the BEP tours. Highly recommend both. Especially for anyone in the Fort Worth area. That branch of the BEP is absolutely amazing.

Joe & I were planning on visiting the one in Fort Worth this summer, I'm always looking for ways to kill a day during summer vacation ;)
