I dunno about this seller. Take a look at the "so-called" errors that he's selling in addition to the one the OP linked. Either he's new to coins (which I doubt) or he's hoping some newbie interested in error coins stumbles on to him. This one is my favorite! A DDO and a DDR on the same coin! LOL!!! I mean,...come on, let's get real! See HERE

That's not correct. On clashed memorials the columns are incuse and the bays are in relief.

I don't really collect clashed dies. That said, I'm basing my judgment on what I consider to be common sense.

If the obverse "clash" shows 150 degree rotation, the reverse should show something similar. I'm not going to say the reverse would be 150-degree (or 210? I don't know how the measurement works) rotated, but it should show an equivalent clash of the obverse on the die, if I'm not mistaken.

Again, I know near nothing about the die process. I'm assuming that someone has the job of resetting the dies to the correct position every so often.

What I meant to say is that on a clash, the clash marks will rise out of the field seemingly behind the details, rather than appear just smashed into everything. But yeah, half of the errors on eb@y are junk PMD.

A real clashed die would not be reversed.

    Look at the lettering

Heck this coin is almost nothing when compared to some of the other coins this seller is trying to sell.check out his other items. you can see some really good doozeys. I have been looking at his coins for what seems like many years. Now folks I think if this seller is not a young child they know what they are trying to do.

I agree 100%. I was so "impressed" with this "dealer" that I send a link off to a error collector buddy of mine. I think I made his day, week, month and year! This guy is as far out there as you can ever get. Either he's blow a fuse or is out to scam newbies out of their money....or both!

Folks Ebay is a awesome place to buy and sell your coins , but a tiny group like this seller we are talking about is hurting ebay and all of us. Ebay would appreciate all of our help to report this seller and put a stop to the altered coins. I have been helping to put a stop to a lot of them already and I'm sure some of you have noticed that the altered fakes are getting to be fewer and fewer on Ebay. at one time the altered coins were so numerous it was hard to weave your way thru them. what we need to do is to go thru this sellers other items and report each one he has on there, all you have to do is to click on report item on each of his altered coins auction page and go from there. If he don't remove the altered or damaged coins Ebay will suspend him permantely. this junk hurts all of our new error collectors that don't know everything and in turn it ends up hurting everyone.

yes that one sure has been spinning for many years and about worn completely away.. This seller has some really good coins that I would buy if he was not so corrupt with that man made and damaged junk. all of his fake stuff will be removed hopefully in a few days if a few more folks will band with me and keep reporting the most obvious ones. I have had hundreds of his junk removed over the years so he is getting close to being permantely banned . The one that he has that impresses me the most is the cent planchet that someone used what looks like crude homemade dime dies on. also that Indian cent that he claims to be a doubled die on both sides is likely to cause some unsuspecting person to buy it. I think this seller is about the last one still left on Ebay. At least the last one that does this continuously.

If this don't stop before long Ebay will probably not allow raw coins to be sold , It will graded and slabbed coins only. a cheap error coin is not worth having slabbed.

I'd have a tough time spending my money with a seller like this too. The fact that he does sell legitimate errors and describes them correctly and knows the right terms means he knows exactly what he's up to when he passes off the junk as real errors. Keep reporting them, that's about all you can do and hope ebay does the right thing.

sorry to tell you but ebay dose not care what you sell. it's no black eye for them. you should see the fraud in antique motorcycle parts. guys will list a motorcycle and say all the chrome is original.the problem being the bike never had a chrome part on it from the factory. ebay only cares about getting 9%-14% of the sale. if ebay requires slabbed coins they will loose 75% of their coin sales....rob

you are totally wrong about ebay not caring what you sell. I don't know how they do in the motorcycle sction but they do have very strict rules on what is listed in the coin section. a lot of coin sellers have already been permantely banned from selling on ebay because they kept breaking the rules over and over. ebay first gives them a few warnings then if the seller keeps breaking the rules they will be banned permantely.Ther are stricter rules on the coin section because this also involves the law enforcement and the Gouvernment which is in contact with ebay. Go try to sell you a coin on ebay and you will be warned of the rules. some ignorant sellers can just never learn to do things right.

law enforcement and the government only care about counterfeit currency. they don't car about fake errors. if ebay cared they would have their own staff review all listings. not rely on a few honest sellers and buyers to chime in.if you say their to large to check every listing then you know already that they don't care.they just care about volume not quality...rob

hey man grow up . what in the heck do you think fake coins that someone is trying to sell as a real mint error is? this is the same as counterfeit currency and is supposed to be banned from ebay.you can beat or tear up a coin or paper dollar all you want to but it is illegal to try to sell the homemade counterfeits as something made by the U.S. Mint without describing it as a novelty . I'm thru trying to explain anything to you so rant on if you want to.

You make a valid point. These are not "counterfeit" coins and with plausible deniability you would argue that you "found" these coins in this condition and hence not illegal. However, there is the issue of mis-representaion of the product by making claims that are knowingly false that anyone skilled in the art would find obvious. And yes, it's very unethical and I'm sure he knows exactly what these coins are and what they are not.

It looks like a few folks on here is not understanding what I was saying when I mentioned counterfeit coins. and yes there is millions of counterfeit coins out there, believe it or not.... surely anyone knows that a beat up and damaged old coin would not be called a counterfeit , but ebay does not want these listed as error coins. for you folks that don't believe there are counterfeit coins out there get in touch with me and I have some for you. I didn't make them myself , I bought them to keep to help identify counterfeits. What do you suppose those US looking silver dollars and the other denominations of US looking coins that comes from China and looks identical to a real peace and morgan silver dollar and other US looking coins is ? these are not marked replica and they are highly magnetic and not silver. only one word describes them ' COUNTERFEIT'

There are probably more counterfeits of the rare coins than the real ones. Take the 1909 S VDB cents for example. These are about impossible to detect and they are really scorching some butts bigtime. Also look at how many of the 55 doubled die cent counterfeits that are being found.I definately would never pay for one of them unless it was slabbed by one of the three best grading companys. If you don't think ebay and the government cares just look at how all of the 1969 S cent doubled die coins were confiscated by our government until they were proven real then returned to the owners.

I know we have run off topic on this thread but that is why I started it is so we can hopefully learn more about error coins.I would love to sell my counterfeit collection of coins on ebay because I'm thru with looking at them. The problem is that ebay will not allow me to no matter how many times I put "counterfeit" in my auction listing. there are lots of folks out there that collects counterfeits but they can not be sold on ebay. now don't try to tell me that ebay don't care.

there are millions of items being sold on ebay each day and it's hard for the ebay workers to watch everything. that's why they need other folks help. that's why the report item button is on each auction page.

Change the word "counterfeit" to "replica" and you can sell them to your hearts content.
