It’s not an expensive coins but the strike is amazing. Very PL fields with good RB toning. Much better than the current single pop 1982 RB at PCGS.
@Bill in Burl - I want your avatar coin. Had an opportunity to snag a nice one of those a while back, but failed to do so.
I've always loved the coin and it's AU/BU or what I remember. I think it's 1792. You'll have to find one by yourself.... sorry
I hate to continue to ruin the OP's thread, but thought that I'd make public that there are many on Ebay. All you have to do is search for "monneron 1792" and add 5 sols if you want. They are one of the finest coin dies for clarity that I've ever seen. I got it in 1986 from Jeff Zarit down in Texas as part of a "lot".
Thanks. Apologies for intruding on your thread, @BlackberryPie. That’s a very impressively prooflike Japanese piece.
This coin is probably a Year 57 (if I'm reading it correctly) or 1982 in Gregorian Calendar dating. It is prooflike as it was likely broken out from a mint set. Cool...
They often look PL when from mint sets. I have a few. Few people send them in to grading companies, as the ones in mint sets (1969 to date) are not key dates, really.
If you're interested in proof/proof-like Japanese contemporary coins, check out "Japan Mint Bureau" coin sets. That' where you find 'em...
