My friend gave me a Monaco 1 euro coin. It shows Prince Rainier and Prince Albert.I believe the year is 2002. He says it's valuable but it's hard to believe that a recent coin that's not an error could be valuable. What is it worth? It's not made of silver.
They can be valuable - that's because of the low mintage numbers and because quite a few folks want them. The full set of 8 2002 coins sells for over $500.
Monaco I just have the 1 euro. I was told that the 1 euro is more valuable than the 2 euro. If true, is it because it shows Prince Albert and Prince Rainier, too?
When is the set with Prince Albert coming out? Next year I presume? But you'd never know. I went to the official stamp/coin website and I could only find/order philatelic products, which I did I'd really like to find the one you have though. Double effigies, wow.
they have small population... small pop.=small mintage ... that is all ~Frank !!! PLEASE DO NOT INSULT!!! !!! I have been insulted before!!! Please do not do it!!! That WILL BE THE SECOND TIME!!! ...or the third...fourth...fifth...on and on and on...
Yeah, thanks GDJMSP. Too rich for my blood. I'll see if I can find a circulated one. Argh, those jet setters and movie stars don't use coins anyway, why do they bother? I mean, they tip in bills! Just another money grabbing scheme from the entrepreneurial Grimaldi family, I believe.
The Monegasque Euro coins are legal tender like the Euro coins from the other 14 countries. The main reason why they are so expensive is due to the low mintage figures. The same story applies to the Euro coins from San Marino & the Vatican City as well. Aidan.
Of course they try and make money with the money they issue. But basically Monaco (and SM and VA) just continue what they have done before - issue coins based on some monetary agreement with their neighbors. By the way, all Monaco €1 coins that have been issued so far show both Rainier and Albert. The mintage of the 2002 issue is a little lower than that of the 2001 piece, but the prices of single coins are not really exorbitant - maybe €5 for EF and €10 for unc. ... Christian
Right. The Monaco and San Marino pieces can at least to a limited extent be found in circulation; try that with Vatican pieces ... One "Monaco specific" problem is that the annual issue volume is relative. While SM and VA can have coins made up annual limit of so and so many euros, MC can issue 1/500 of the annual French issue volume. Now in 2005 the country had a €10 gold coin made (mintage about 3,300) in memory of the deceased Prince Rainier. The only "circulation" coins that Monaco issued in that year was ... a proof set (mintage 35,000) with only the 1, 2 and 5 cent coins. Price €40 for registered customers, €60 plus shipping for others. Christian
the 1 euro is also valuable like the 2 euro - The monegasque issue every year new coin sets. In 2005 they issued only the 1+2+5 Cent in Proof version edited the normally price for an official monaco proof set of 2001 is about 400EUR or 500 USD / the issue of 2005 is very tiny (only 35.000 coins were minted) !
huge demand on the european market are also the silver coins of monaco - the 10 Euro issue 2003 is very rare ! edited
