Apmex has $1 Face Value bags of silver priced at 25.16 currently. I checked Coinflation and that's only 2.11 over melt. If silver goes back up to $40 an ounce, you've made a profit of 3.78 per bag bought. Also, some of the larger bags are more than $500 underpriced. Has anyone on this forum had a bad experience with Apmex? If not, I'm ordering $6 face of quarters.

I think Apmex has a pretty good reputation here.

Have you thought of going to a local coin show? I wonder what premiums are there.

There are some flea markets around here that I go to pretty frequently. Quarters for $6, dimes for $2.50. They even had a Morgan dollar for $13, but I suspected it was a fake and didn't buy it. Also, about 200 miles from my house, there's a little shop with cheap junk silver I plan on hitting after Christmas.

  5. Apmex has a good reputation. However, shipping and handling charges are too high. TC

Yep! That totally eats up their 'good' offers on many products they market.

    For the OP:
That said, they are a solid company to deal with for individual retail style purchases. I recommend avoiding electronic forms of payment with them and take the time to send a check or money order instead. APMEX (and other bullion dealers) charge a few percent to offset the CC charges they incur. From past experience, they can deliver orders just as fast when you send your payment via regular mail as it takes them time to clear your payment with a CC and send your order out. I find they over-compensate in packaging to some degree and when asked to fill out a customer survey, often suggest that they find more "eco-friendly" packaging solutions and cut back on the amount of material they stuff in boxes.

If you are looking for a company to compare prices and basic services, check out Provident Metals. They are a similar company but run things on a smaller budget I feel. They are quick to deliver and don't go overboard with slick marketing campaigns nor a flowery web site. I recommend Provident and APMEX IF you need/want to buy PMs online from reliable sources.

Look at FideliTrade and A-Mark for a couple more options. They are not as 'retail' oriented but this also means they have less overhead and may offer better prices that the other two companies mentioned.

I would always go with Provident over APMEX for 2 reasons. Although APMEX provides good quality service and good products, so does Provident Metals. In every case I have ever examined, Provident always (and I use that word sparingly) has had better prices on every item I have wanted, as well as much more realistic shipping costs.

Right now, Provident is selling 90% junk silver at about 22 times face value; about 10% less than APMEX.
