Congrats on getting your order from the Mint. Hard to tell what the prices will do. Only time will tell. Looking forward to hear how other folks on the forums coins grade out.

I would like to enter this contest for my nephew. He just turned 8 a few months back and about 2 weeks ago I started showing him some of my Morgans/JFKs I had been collecting for a couple years now. My sister (his mother) and my brother-in-law, were in the middle of a divorce at that time and I wanted to spend some time with him because it's been a very tough time (as I believe most divorces are for young kids). Needless to say, he took to the coins and started looking at all the pretty shiny BU morgans and some of the foreign coins I had inherited, as well. A couple hours later, I had him putting the coins into flips and 2x2s by himself, writing down what he thought the grade was (very rough estimate, obviously) and gave him a bag full of coins to keep and take home. He did love the 2 ASE's I have stored in black velvet display cases, but I wasn't willing to part with those, just yet.

Following threads on this forum and the US mint site, I decided I wouldn't have the money to buy the 25th anniversary set, and Christmas is coming (I have a 2 year old, hehe).

Needless to say, last Saturday my brother-in-law died at his apartment by himself. The police/homicide investigators said it was apparently a mix of alcohol and drugs (my guess is painkillers). My nephew was told about this on Sunday.

I have been wanting to get him something very special for Christmas, and this thread caught my attention quickly, not for me, but for him. If I had to come up with $300/$600 I could do it (all family being involved), were my entry picked. Sadly, to prove this is not a joke, I can provide the obituary (which is not yet printed in the paper) and a funeral service program, which will be held after Thanksgiving. I would also be willing to provide information regarding this occurrence and contact information for my nephew and sister.

I am not normally a "needy" person and never ask for handouts. I just thought this might be worth it for him. He really does need a hobby, and the fact that he was SO interested a couple weeks ago makes me feel like we'll be working on some type of coin collecting for years to come, especially with his dad being gone.

I apologize if this entry does not fall under the submission guidelines due to the fact that I didn't try to get the set.

    Thanks,
    Spencer

  5. Flyers10;
My Order #38382xxx went to 'In stock and reserved" yesterday, so I will withdraw from your drawing. I still want to thank you for giving true collectors a chance to own one of these sets. I only ordered one set, but would like to think if I had gotten 5 sets I could have been as generous as you are.
    Thanks again for this contest!

    flyers10:
As of today some of our orders are still in process and expected to ship 12/07 which means they haven't canceled our orders as of yet. I'm assuming the mint will be closed Thanksgiving which means we won't hear anything more until Friday. Have you given any thought to this in case one of us (we who are still waiting) wins?

Maybe you would have to hold on to the set until we get the dear john letter from the mint. What are your thoughts?

I can do that until we are positive if you get the set or not if you win.

Did you ever get a set confirmed by the Mint? I saw your posts on the order thread, it looks like you are on the verge of getting it confirmed or maybe did get it confirmed a day or two ago. Hope you did - good luck!

    I am one of those.
But I am looking at it like this.
If the mint comes thru or not it is like a contest too like flyers so we are in one either way :D

I think of the US Mint more like a lottery/raffle, where some folks had their dead relatives enter 5 times per. :p

Oh, and I didn't win any sets of the Bay, so I'm still in.
