Okay I was cleaning out my petty change cup and I came across... a silver coloured american penny. It's really dirty/scratched up and I could only make out the digits 19X3 (the three might not even be a three). I don't really care about its worth(but that would be nice) all i really want to know is approximately how old this penny is.

not too too old... 1943 the government used steel pennies so copper could be used for battle. not worth much if it's dirty and scratched... but it's cool to have

Give it the magnet test. If it jumps to a magnet, then for sure it is a 1943 Lincoln Cent. If not, HMMM. then we have something there.

Like perhaps a 1983 cent that has been dipped for a bit in acid to remove the copper plating.
