It still happens. Nice find on the bicentennial though.
Had an older lady pay with 10 of them a few weeks ago. One was a '77-S which I kept. Another customer took the rest.

I've found around 54 at banks and in circulation.

Cool, I have never found one until after I read your post earlier today. Then went tony local coffee stop and spotted one in the " goodies slot" when the girl opened the register. I ended up with 9 of them.

 

Found 4 of them at my local gas station. I always ask them if they have anything special.
