Jason, Put the Redbook down and back away carefully. Find out what they actually sell for not a pie-in-the-sky value.

Ive been studying on those first "Dollars of Our Daddies" as they were called in the 1800's and like you would really would like to have one (or two ). It will take selling several of my Morgans but it will be a good trade.

Thanks for the much needed advice, this coin is clearly not a red book drop in the bucket. Stunning halves Eduard. I would break my left arm for either of them.

I like the original look of the OP's half but I too would save for one with a little more definition. In grades below VF the 1795 is not scarce.

$1850 is a bit high on average for a VG8. That dealer is known to have higher-end coins and tends to ask more for them.

The PCGS price guide, FWIW, cites $1450. I'll post below some recent sales from Heritage auctions. Condition and eye appeal drive price so I wouldn't get too stuck on price guides.

Also, the Op's half is a regular strike, neither the 2-leaf nor 3-leaf version or one of the other varieties. With a rim bump at 3k obv.

Here's a PQ VG10 that sold at Heritage for $2185 after juice two weeks ago
Here's a VG8 that sold at Heritage for $1610 two weeks ago
Here's another nice VG10 sold in Oct for $1840

I THINK that it is O-107.

Hard to be sure, but it looks like it.

If so, it is an R-5.

there should be 8 berries on either side, reverse.
And 2 (included in the 8) below the right wing.

In spite of the above comments, I really like it, nice honest wear.

Once again thanks for the comments. I'll post some pictures when I do make the purchase. Until then I'll be doing a lot of investigating.
