    Hello,

If you can please give me some information about a coin of the roman emperor GALLIENUS. On the one side, the coin has GALLIENUS written on it with a face looking to the right, and the other side there is something i can't understand and the letters L V N A L.

I'm not an expert in coins, so please forgive me for my "unprofessional" description...

    Thanks!

    Hey AnemicOak!
Have you researched the god/deity on the reverse of that second coin? It looks like it reads LVNA LVCIFERA
    LOL...Lucifer on a Roman coin?
Seriously though, that's a new one to me.
    PS
    I found a dog of that name..hehe
    LUNA LUCIFERA
    DE ANGEL O DEMONIO
    owner: M. Bonsignore

PPS..I found her.It represents two of the three forms taken by the goddess Diana.
Luna in Heaven, Diana on Earth and Hecate in the underworld. She was also known as Diana Lucifera..the bringer of light..way cool!

Lucifera is "Bringer of Light". The goddess Diana was often known as Diana Lucifera (Diana Bringer of Light) and Luna was one of the three forms of Diana. Diana's three forms were Luna in Heaven, Diana on Earth, and Hecate in the Underworld.

    The third coin is...

    Antoninianus (double denarius)
Obv: GALLIENVSAVG - Radiate, cuirassed bust right.
Rev: LVNALVCIFERA - Luna advancing right, holding torch.
    Minted: 266-268 (in Antioch)
RIC 646f (number in "Roman Imperial Coinage" volume V, part I)

This info is from the Dirty Old Coins research site & has ot been researched further by me.

If you can get a good pic/scan and want to be 100% sure of the attribution I'd post it here or in the ID section at either Ancients.info or ForumAncientCoins.com
