Stack of 1909 S VDB'S!!!!

    Couldn't be, that was zinc that was melted as you can see. If it was a 1909 S VDB it would be mostly copper and those were mostly zinc so they were later that 1982.

    Would a laser this strong even be legal to own?

    It is a fresnel lens, not a laser. It uses the sun and concentrates the focal point. I bought 5 of them from the Salvation army from old overhead projectors. Haven't decided what to make yet, I was hoping to make a solar top for my ceramics kiln.

    Some projection TV systems used Fresnel lenses up to four or five feet across. Most of those videos seem to be using ones of two feet or less and they are getting temperatures of over 800 degrees. A four foot lens gathers and focuses four times as much light.
