Look at this yellowseal two: http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-CURRENCY-1953B-NICE-2-OLD-PAPER-MONEY-/150695109578?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231620e3ca#ht_979wt_1187 Something looks funny about this bill....
Yeah i read about this on eBay. People are exposing these red seal $2 to chemicals and its turning them to this orange/yellow color. You can read the article here. http://reviews.ebay.com/1953-and-1963-2-Golden-Yellow-or-Orange-Seal-Notes?ugid=10000000001340402
The only legitimate yellow seal notes are the North Africa series and Gold Certificates. None of these were $2.00 notes. All of the 1953 and 1963 yellow seal notes are faded or chemically altered red seals.
It could have also sat in direct sunlight for YEARS if it isn't just a manufactured error. If you pay real, real close attention to it, you can kind of see the the fading of it.
sorry , kinda off the subject but I bought a 1923 $1 off ebay. the note is in really good shape. xf maybe . but when the seller shipped it he warped paper around it, with out a holder. and i noticed ink on the paper. my question is , is it normal for ink to come off an old note ? if i take a current note out of my wallet and rub it on a white piece of paper it seems to leave ink residue.
could you post a picture of it and if the ink is still smearing and wasnt already smeared then that sounds fishy to me. But pictures always help and i may be wrong.
People are constantly advertising 1953 and 1963 two dollar bills with RARE Gold, Yellow, or orange seals. These notes have been tampered with! The United States government has NEVER produced a two dollar bill with a gold, yellow, or orange seal, with the exception of the Hawaii and North Africa notes.
sorry for the bad photo.the note is in a holder and a frame. but i was concerned because there was some black ink on the paper the note was shipped with. just a little ink residue . the white piece of paper the note was wrapped in has been thrown away. I hope I didn't waste $20
Looks to me the cameras white balance is way off on the warm side. Happens a lot under certain lamps with point and shoots. I just did a little correcting to show what I mean...
There was no $2.00 note in either the North Africa or Hawaii series. The Hawaii seals are brown not gold, yellow or orange.
I`ve had the same issue with a VF German note from 1942 I got on eBay. It arrived wrapped in a piece of clean thick white paper and there were weak blue ink marks inside, where the note (also mostly blue in color) touched the paper. They were a bit smeared, but it was definitely the picture from the note. The note got watermark, raised tracery and looks absolutely legit.
Thanks for catching my poor grammer. I meant the exception was the color of the seal on the North African note. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-2003-State-HAWAII-2-Two-Dollar-Bill-Uncirc-/160655940672
looks good x115 my guess is the ink was from something else not the bill itself maybe something spilled on it.
The note in the link is a real $2.00 note with a garbage overprint applied by a commercial firm to bilk money out of people who buy these "collectibles" for inflated prices. They are similar to the gold-plated State Quarters hawked by QVC.
