Just wondering if any of you have ever actually put coins back in circulation. I think as I work on a nickel collection I may start spending some lower grade liberty/no date buffalo coins i get from rolls. Afterall it was a circulating coin that got me started collecting, maybe a cool find someone gets will get them started as well. Just wondering if any of you veteran collectors out there have done this. That is one thing about buying a roll of garbage, if nothing else atleast it's worth face value.
I do it all the time. Mostly circulated wheaties, but some nickels and other coins too. Not so much the silver anymore...lol
Collectors and roll searchers tend to call Chip and Peter "Seeders" of whom we are thankful because they just may have been the people that gave us our random wheat or Ike in change. "Seeders" because they plant the idea and inspiration of coin collecting into our minds.
I've been spending a lot of my 38-60 Jefferson nickels. I worked in a casino back in the day and ended up saving $500+ in this year range. I only keep the 39-D, 50-D and the wartime silvers.
I hear you on keeping the silver! It's always fun to find something neat, got a merc dime out of a vending machine a few days ago. May start building a set of those too, they aren't too pricey yet. Just another thank you for all the information you share on here. By the way what is "acid dating"? I am a newbie. John
ah this sounds like a great idea i actually have some i need to get rid of ... and they got all green
I spend intentionally some oddball coins like ikes and SBA's, but the "worst" thing I do is salt US dig sites with ancient roman coins.
I could never see myself doing this. I love taking these coins out of circulation. I'm too acquisitive to give anything away like that.
I like to get halves or $1 coins from the bank occasionally and pop those into circulation. I got an Ike at the bank the other day, but am unsure whether to spend it or not ...
