I have acquired what I believe to be a 1912 Li Yuan-Hung China Republic silver dollar. I really don't know much about it other than the very little I've found on the internet. It seems to be legit passing a magnet test. Im gonna try and put up some pics on here later. Anyone have any idea what this coin is all about or possibly what its worth?
26.50 gram, 39mm, $200 or $250 in XF, $150 or $170 in VF if real, depends on variety, according to the catalog. There is an excellent chance its fake, since majority of recent Chinese fakes pass magnet test. Weigh it to be sure.
You got to watch out for these types. I purchased two chinese coins that passed several tests and even had silver plating, but upon research, I found them to be fake. Fortunately I spent very little, so I use them as paper weights. lol
Yeah, I was afraid it may be fake. Whats my best plan of action in determining either way? I've been collecting for about a year now and I'm still learning the ropes!
The best plan to avoid Fakes is find the ones with the large chop marks, an aged patina through out the chop cut and coin along with the correct weight of course. Your coin looks like newly minted pewter. Also include use of a set calipers for the correct od and thickness (reference only on thickness, depends on wear)!
