1983 D Doubled Date

    Sorry, title should have been Doubled Mint Mark! Sure Looks like it has two D's ? What do you think and thanks for the help!

    There are no listed DDO's for your coin's date/mintmark, so whatever your seeing doubled is either machine doubling or die deterioration doubling (Personally, I see no doubling). As far as the mintmark goes, it looks like it took a hard hit from a roll crimping machine. I've also concluded this because there are no listed RPM's for your coin's date/mintmark. SORRY! :)

    actually its not Doubled or Machine doubled and it hasn't been hit by a roll crimper either. Thid coin has terminal zinc rot. The copper plating around the mintmark had a split in it and the enviroment has gotten in and started the zinc rotting. eventually the mintmark will actially fall off this coin. If you gently push next to the mintmark with a toothpick you will see the copper plating move and there is a whitish powder beneath.

    Can you please explain why you consider a damaged coin a "nice find"?

    On a side note, your pictures are really nicely done to show the coin.
