It's scripted? You mean Barrie didn't really hire a dwarf and have him use stilts to see inside the lockers?

The writer for that scene probably used to write scripts for "Professional Wrestling".

Could give him the benefit of the doubt and say he already knows he's going to be on TV so he brings along goofy characters just for fun. To my knowledge, they claim it's not scripted. It seems like it's not scripted for the most part but if it's not totally scripted, they're definitely guided to do or say certain things. That's one of the few shows I'll watch though, not just for them finding crap but just because the people are funny. Barry is my favorite, he's just funny. I don't watch a lot of TV though.

It's entirely possible that these are counterfeits that someone was going to use in a scam. It's like the locker that Someone stored "$2.5mm" or so in two briefcases here. Apparently, they bring people to the locker and tell them those are $100 bills that were painted black to be able to get through customs. People are dumb and greedy, so they tell them that they can't afford the chemicals to remove the black, and promise a cut for giving them money to buy the chemicals. The numbers are probably off, but this was an actual scam someone did to try and fool APEC visitors.

Must be pretty good counterfeits to fool the appraisers.

They brought him a "piece of junk", because they wanted a RESTORATION project, not a finished car.

Yes, people ARE stupid enough. I know it for a fact. The owners forget about the locker, are too lazy, or die and the next of kin simply doesn't care about the locker, or there is no next of kin.

I agree with this statement. I worked the grounds of a casino for several years (I now go to school full-time) and I found all kinds of interesting items including cash that was thrown away. I found $5 and $20 bills thrown away at the gas station on several occasions. One time in the trash in the hotel parking lot I found a clear pouch with about $25 and several lottery tickets whose numbers had yet to be drawn. Another time I found an 8mm movie projector from the 1950s which had been set out near the dumpster. It took some cleaning and lubrication but I got it to work like new. I could write a book on what I found as a result of people's stupidity or lack of interest in something just from working at that one casino. Given my own experiences of recovering things I have no reason to doubt the legitimacy of the findings on Storage Wars.

I wish they were good counterfeits. But let's look at the picture of the "gold" coin. Not only are the design and the legends wrong. And not only does the coin look to be highly polished, but look at the modern numerals, 2, 14 and 3 stamped into the coin. Or the, what looks like a swastika stamped into the coin. Oh wait, I know. Those are supposed to be chop marks like all the rest of the Chinese characters stamped into the coin to lend an aura of authenticity.

Whoever this "appraiser" is - he sure doesn't know anything about Spanish colonial gold.

Maybe all he had to know was that it was gold and weighed something around 300 ounces!

Maybe. Of course I have my doubts that the "gold" coin pictured even is gold. But I'll admit this story just gets stranger and stranger. The NY Post link says the container weighted 250 lbs. and that there were only 16 gold doubloons. And if all 16 were like that one pictured - well, that kind of says it all.

And even if the silver coins are real - I think $500k is a gross exaggeration.

Oh boy, where do I begin on this one. First off let me tell you that I am in the TV buisiness and Pawn Stars does that beucase its free advertising and they know people will want to bring valuable items so it's not staged. Anyone could bring in a high price item. When they walk in the door and show Rick or Corey, etc, if they find it cool enough for TV they will tell the TV crew in the back room to shoot it and they would go about their buisiness as if there were not cameras. They got hundreds of items a day they just don't put the $20 items in becuase who would really want to watch that. And people could have high priced stuff in a locker and not get it out because they could have died, sick, forgot, etc. The chances of finding something like this is slim to none but it is not impossible.

The other show in TruTv Hardcore pawn i believe doesn't have many people bringing in rare items even though that pawn store is much better than Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, is it because of their locations (Detroit vs Las Vegas?)

    Of course, the "8R" at 9 o'clock is a dead giveaway it's fake-- 8 reales = silver.

That thing was more than a restoration project...especially for a project that they returned to a stock looking interior. If that was even the same car (which I very well may not have been), they did it to show what can be done. Trust me, the kind of car they started with and car they finished with is not the intelligent way to restore a car. 1957 Chevy's are available in all kinds of condition to restore...starting with a just a body is the expensive/inefficient way to do things. Trust me, I have restored a couple cars. ;)
