Right now I am searching through $1 bills. Twice this week I went to the bank to get my fix and twice I was given $100 strap of Boston * notes. They are from the same 3,200,000 run and the second strap contains A04439601*-A04439700*. I know they are not old and not from a low number run, but do you think they still carry a premium today? What type of premium do you think they might have in 10 or 20 years? Derek
Wow... If you can afford to sit on it, that might be a good thing to keep intact. I'd like to hear the opinion of some long time bill collectors.
If I were to hold on to them what do you think would be a good method for storage? I would want to keep the strap intact, so seperating them into seperate holders is not really an option. derek
I used an inflation calculator and $100 in 1991 is worth $160 in 2011. I also tried $100 in 2001 and it calculated by today it to be worth $126. I don't believe anybody can accurately predict (with any certainty) what any collectible currency will be worth 10-20 years from now. These packs (100) of star notes are a mainstay on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...tes&_osacat=40028&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
SteveInTampa, Thanks for the link it as very helpful. I know no one has a crystal ball into the future. I was just trying to gage people opinion on whether these packs would be a good investment if they were held onto. I think with the rate of inflation and the purchasing power of the dollar these packs would have to increase in value to at least $200 over the next 10 years to be worth holding onto. What are your thoughts about that?
I'd keep them ifI were you but that's just me because I keep all stars (excluding 2006 $100 *'s). Good luck with whatever you end up deciding to do...
I would recommend you to keep it. I keep each strap inside an archival glassine envelopes (available from stamp supply dealers). Then, I place the straps (protected by glassine envelopes) inside archival boxes.
Thanks everyone for your for comments as to whether I should hold on to these straps or not. I have decided to do both. I went back to the same bank yesterday to see if they had anymore. The teller I previously talk with was all out but the teller in the drive up had 2 more straps. Since I know have 4 straps I decided to keep 2 and sell two. The best of both worlds. Derek
02138, Thanks for the idea. I have never used a glassine envelope before but I will look into them. Derek
