1910 MS details - corroded. get some verdi-gone onto that one. 1918 MS 63 (maybe 64 if that isn't a rim ding at 5 oclock)
Verdigris on a red coin is a death sentence. It forms quite differently from that on a brown coin, i.e. there's no patina to offer (at least some) protection. Normally there's pitting under the corrosion and it's rarely pleasant after removal. VC could get the edges and any of the lighter spots but it won't touch the heavy bits. Personally, I'd love to attempt a conservation of this one.....it's an interesting case. If you're interested Sarah, send me a PM. I'll do it free and even pay shipping.
If I sent these coins to you, and pay for your services. Could you also, send them in to a respectable and well know grading service? I just don't know how this is done. I've read about the PCGS, But, I'm not too familar on the pocess. I have 10 Lincoln wheat cent I would love to have graded. With you making some money also, could you give me a bussiness cost for a transaction like that. How much! and an address to mail these coins to you. I can pay with a Post Office Money Order for your help, How much would something like that cost? Thank You! 213sarah
This will be an outstanding thread to watch to completion ! Badness, it would be very interesting to see your work on these... before and after pics and then tpg results is you deem that the coin is gradable post conservation. Keep us in the loop as you two proceed down this road..
I'm not asking for money, I won't take money and I don't usually conserve coins for others. The only reason I offer is that I want to see what I can do for the 1910. I rarely see red wheat cents with verdigris that bad and it will make for an interesting test case. It wouldn't be cost effective to have either coin slabbed, they are not of high enough grade to justify the expense. Also, the 1910 will most likely never grade with a TPG. I'll drop you a PM.
62 63 I'll bet the 1910 cleans up pretty well, but some of the spots will leave behind planchet/corrosion issues.
Yes, I have several complete Lincoln Cent Collections Most I will sale in lots, But, I also have a Complete High grade set I will sale off at one at a time. Some, I will not part from. Some are listed now on ebay. The 1918 is going for 85% to donation
I'm about to mail this coin to you, and I notice that the rim is almost all flat, and the outside rim is all wide and flat all the way around. Could this be a proof as well? the 1910!
Based on the pictures I don't believe this coin to be a proof. Many 1909 and 1910 business strikes can closely resemble proofs, it's fairly common. There's a lot of speculation that the mint may have moved the MPL dies over to normal production after they were done minting proofs, but I don't think that's be conclusively proven.
Finally! BadThad, Here is the ( USPS Tracking #03092880000204375874 ) The 1910 is on the way. Thanks Again! BadThad for this oppertunity to save my 1910 Lincoln Cent! 213sarah.
