Pulled this nickel out of a bank roll...

My initial impression was that it's a strike through. Quickly came to mind that it could be damage, but the edge is not damaged at all, plus the reverse is mint-state.

If it is an error, anybody have an idea as far as value?

    Hi Merc,
My first impression was damage, but it could be a grease strike. Either way, not much eye appeal so I'm not thinking a big premium on that one. Just my opinion.

If no rim damage i'd say its a greaser... probably not worth a bunch but hey you never know, i heard that this one guy got over $150 on ebay for a no fg half dollar lol

Merc Crazy, picture grease caked in the crevasses of the die in that area when the coin was struck, resulting in the incomplete strike in that area. It's a strike-through, but it's struck-through grease, not struck-through debris. Hope that clears it up for you.
