Doubled West Virginia State Quarter?

    Can anyone tell what type of doubling this is?


    2005 United States Mint 50 State Quarters Proof Set
    West Virginia Quarter


    Doubling on the eyes, chin, nose, numerous letters - Obverse only

    The distinct "step" like appearance suggests machine doubling to me.

    As a side note...those are GREAT close ups of the doubling. Top notch, could be used as examples, I think!

    It looked rounded to me instead of "step like". I appreciate your thoughts though and would love to hear other's opinions as well.

    I'll put my 2cents worth in... I think it will be MD, as I see no split serifs on the lettering, but all in all seems more likely to be the chatter type doubling

    Thanks for the input/direction. Wouldn't it be odd for a mint proof set to have machine doubling?
