Meanwhile, in non-25th ASE news, I picked up a 49-S Franklin for under $60. It arrived in the mail today. In the pics I could see it had awesome luster. But it almost looked like it had a smudge or a partial ring from a coin counter. I couldn't tell. Not the case though. It came and it is unreal. Unbelievably clean. One of the best in my album. I believe it could pass as a MS-65. 64 at minimum. Probably not FBL but maybe. Last year I was expecting to pay $100 for one of these. I'm not going to ask anyone if it was a good deal or not because I know I wouldn't sell it for $100. lol For anyone who doesn't collect them, this is pretty much the key of the series. Two more to go....
So you are just going to tease us like this and not post a picture? For shame! So, I will say it is overgraded and lacks luster. Maybe that will help motivate you to post an image.
Haha. I knew that was coming! It's difficult to capture all the luster on one of these without a video. I was hoping to avoid the hassle of posting a pic, but.... ok, I'll stop being lazy. The coin is worth it. lol That mark on the bell is over-exaggerated in the pic. It looks like a dent but in hand it's nothing. Just a minor luster break.
I'll tell you anyway. It WAS a great deal. Has a good shot at 65, and slight for 66, but I'll stay reserved with 64.
I agree with the others....that is one beauty of a coin. I will also say this...if it is representative of the rest of your album, then you have one helluva beautiful album!!! Makes me want to consider starting one of my own 'bald guy' Dansco. As for the price? Fantastic!
Do it.. it's an easy and "fun" series. The '49-S happens to be the lowest graded coin in my Dansco, and now Vess has stirred my interest in upgrading this "sore thumb".
Yeah I know. But just for the Franklin series it can be a tougher one to locate and would normally be the priciest in higher grade. 3.7 million made. I've been to shows locally with 80 tables and not found a MS one. The 53 and 55 only had around 2.5 million minted each. Sometimes you can't find a nice 55 at the shows either.
