question about wiping coins

    I think it's just an over reaction for the most part. If our eyes were capable at 100x closer magnification at our own will, we'd all see that everything in the world we thought was perfect actually isn't even near perfect. ;)

    No doubt, you can damage a coin by haphazardly rubbing it with a cloth that may have some unseen grit in its surface but I would think that a lens cloth would be grit free since unless glasses have a scratch resistant coating, the manufacturers of lens cloth would be shelling out some serious money to repair or replace scratched glasses.

    I'm in no way saying it's right or even a practice that folks should do but I think in this particular case the OP would find no measurable damage to his coins and returning them because he "thought" he "damaged" the coins, based on the opinions of some, would just be wrong. Especially if he cannot tell.

    If he likes the coins, then keep em.
