Bowers and Merena auctions is having another fine auction at the upcoming Baltimore coin and currency convention July 8 - 11th.

A few one of a kind specimens are being offered, along with many other fine coins.

Seems kinda funny that they still call it Bowers and Merena when neither Bowers nor Merena are even there anymore. :D

Still, yeah, I've followed their auctions and they still have the same quality stuff they had when Dave Bowers was there.

Bowers and Merena is a great auction house, but they seem to be sliding as of late. Not that it is obvious, but I see the signs.

Recently I tried to contact them about selling a relatively rare and expensive coin. I first sent an email and after several days, had received no response. I then contacted them via phone and was told that the right person was not available at the time and asked to call back - no offer to take a message, no attempt to collect information - just a request that I call back.

I then sent a second email message and have yet to receive a response to that message.

Bear in mind, we have purchased from them before, had them auction off rare merchandise, and receive a catalog for every upcoming auction!

AS an educated man, I grew up working on a farm, we would find coins in the meadow, then we would grade them, we also used to talk about auctions and what you are now trying to say is not true! You are trying to fool us

Both my son (6) and my daughter (13) have an interest in numismatics although at 13, I think my daughter has many other interests which probably take precedent ;-)

It is a good thing I finished reading this thread. My moderating senses were buzzing.

    cdcda,
I agree that some of the transition hasn't gone well for Spectrum. (new owners of bowers and merena). It is a major undertaking though. This wasn't the only deal made at the time.
I have used Bowers and Merena as our chief source for years, and yes I have been spoiled by one of the best in the business.
I have a lot of respect for Spectrum, and what they have done over the years. Maybe they are just having some growing pains.
Hopefully they will continue the excellent tradition.
