fake coins? i need to know how to tell a good gothic crown from a fake one. there may be a website that can help people tell the real thing from a forgery; just wondered if anyone knew of such a site?. thanks very much.:smile
Have you tried looking in the "GALLERY" section of this site? BTW, I haven't said hello, "Hello and welcome to the list." Bone
thanks! i took a look but couldnt find anything! and thanks for the welcome bone! nice to be able to call in here for any info and see some of your lovely american coins too... the thing is... i got this gothic crown and i didnt know how valuable they are, didnt even know about it, and i dont think the seller had a clue either (or did he?if its a fake he might). i was after another of his coins and this meant buying a bulk lot to get the one i was interested in,we bartered on the cost and i thought i had paid a little too higher price for the one i wanted but thought i could recover some money by selling on the rest! but this gothic crown was in amongst the others and when i sat to research it i find it is worth nearly 20 times more than i paid for the whole lot of coins!! i have seen 2 on ebay so far at over £1000. so now i really need to know if the one i have is a fake or did i just win the lottery??? so to speak! i have searched the net trying to find pics of any fakes to see if i can identify mine against them though mine is absolutely identical in every way!!. usually fakes are quite poor in quality. if you have any more ideas then let me know please do! thanks again guys
here is the other side. camera is not fantastic and lighting is not a natural light. boy oh boy these pics are big??
The pics are bit out of focus and that makes it hard to see any fine details. But there are other things you can do - the first thing I would do is weigh the coin and report back.
hi again, i only have the basic kitchen scales so dont know how acurate they are but i weighed the coin on them and it says 23grams. i never thought about weighing it. do you know how heavy they are supposed to be? yes... i know the pics are terrible! i have not got a great camera i will try and take some better pics if you need them? thanks again!!Kiss
If your scales are even close to accurate the coin is a fake. The correct weight is 28.2759 grams. If you wish to confirm the weight, take the coin to a jewelry store and have them weigh it for you.
ok! thanks for your help! well i didnt win the lottery.. but still it looks great in my collection! and it is a beautiful coin, must of took a great deal of effort to make a forgery look as good as this lol! cheers for all your time. regards from poppy:hail:
i dont think i will... you know its just gotta be a fake, i am just going to sit in there and look at it every day or so when i open them up to gaze at them and keep it. its mine!
