I have a few of these half dollars but have read there is a silver version. Mine are clad, is there a silver version and is the side of the coin solid silver? Thanks

The silver version is 90% silver. The edge of the 90% coin will not show any clad layers because the coin is 90% silver throughout.

Yes, the Mint first produced clad and silver versions in 1976, and then from 1992 to date there have been both clad and silver proofs produced every year. As Hobo said, they're easy to tell apart by looking at the edges.

Also when held next to each other, the silver shines whiter, in case you can't see the edge. The holders of the silver proof sets are red, while the clad holders are blue.
