Collecting ANA Materials and Items?

The ANA creates collectibles, of course. You can say that -- I just did -- without really plumbing the depths of meaning. If you go to an ANA convention -- one running right now and I am not there -- you see so much ANA material that you do not even notice it.

I am at home, in my office. I swear that I do not collect ANA material and I am looking at four medals, one plaque, and a pin -- and that's not all of it. These are just a few things to decorate a ledge hanging off a wall. (Don't ask: this is a 1927 home, and some prairie architect had a neo-classical moment.) Anyway, there are people who do collect ANA material.

    Are any of them here?

Not as a general rule - but I do have a copy of the Nov. 1915 The Numismatist. That's about as close as I can get ;)

I collect ANA Convention Badges and Medals. The artwork on the medals is beautiful. Most are high relief and many have been done by famous designers/sculptors. One of my favorites is a badge done by Frank Gasparro which is an adaptation of St Gaudens Liberty. It was for the ANA Convention in Philadelphia - the year and picture both escape me at the moment.

I guess it's better late than never to stumble onto your post. Yes, I collect ANA memorabilia. There aren't many of us out here!

Hello. Sorry for the big delay. I haven't been on the site in quite a long time. Other priorities have kept me away.

I like the ANA medals a great deal. They have been going up in price lately - the silver understandably - the bronze ??
I'm guessing renewed collector interest as folks look for bargain works of art in this tough economy where coins are getting more and more expensive every day.

    Best,
    Art

I have the complete run of the 3-medal sets that were issued for each of the annual conventions from 1969-1982. Each numbered set contains 1 - 38mm silver, 1 - 38mm bronze & 1 - 19mm bronze. I submitted all 42 of them to NGC for grading last year. Twelve of the sets were formerly housed in Capital Plastics holders and two sets were housed in hinged presentation cases, all of which I still have.

    I collect some --
mostly if I attend, I will save some items: medals, passes, etc.

Otherwise, only if it relates to some other collectible, for example, the ANA Red Books (Special Editions) I try to collect whatever relates to the event.

I also pick up ANA medals or tokens on ocassion, but don't go out of my way to add them to my exonumia collection. I prefer coin club or collector/dealer materials more.
